‘Proud to serve my God and country’ – Opinion – The Evening Tribune – Hornell, NY

We all knew why we were there. Our Squad had been pulled off the (combat front) line in Italy and told to pack up and get ready to ship out two months and seven days after D-Day and the Allied invasion of Europe. Those members of the 517th were going to make history the next day. As shadows lengthened and the sun prepared to drop into the Mediterranean, a C-47 landed next to the grassy field.

Make a very faint pencil line 1/8 inch away from where you want the first piece of paper to start. Dont hang the first piece of paper on the pencil line, especially if the paper background is white. Youll end up seeing the pencil line in the seam when the paperdries. Trimming and cutting paper is an art. The easiest cuts to make are at the ceiling and along long vertical cuts where door and window woodwork touch up against a wall. To make it easy to cut, only allow the wallpaper to lap up onto the ceiling about 1 or 2inches. The trimming process begins by using the short-bristle brush and carefully pressing the paper as tight as you can into the corner where the top of the wall meets the ceiling.
