Benchmade 710 – Get The High End Multi Purpose Pocket Knife

The next few paragraphs offers important tips and advice that could help you successfully pick a pocket knife for your needs. Find the best pocket knife and it will serve you well for years to come.

The Benchmade 710 was designed by custom knife makers Bill McHenry and Jason Williams. It is the end product of their hard work over the course of 4 years. The popular AXIS lock makes it possible for easy one-handed opening and closing of the blade without your fingers ever being in the path of the blade. The lock was also designed by Bill and Jason. The lock design is straightforward to activate without directions needed on how the knife works.

As simple as the lock is, perhaps its major selling feature is its brute strength. In testing, the lock supported a negative load of over 200 pounds with no damage. After the lock finally failed, the liners simply cracked over the locking pin but in no way would the blade have closed on the user hand in testing.

For great functional redundancy, the AXIS lock features two Omega shaped springs. The springs are lightly stressed and tests demonstrate they should last indefinitely. Even though one spring fails, another will still operate without any problems.

It is difficult to say if this is the most durable lock made in folding knives. The manufacturer states the Benchmade 710 is more robust than any other knives on market. The sizable 3.9″ D2 Tool Steel blade of the 710 features a reverse-curve grind for better cutting ability.

On the butt end of the knife, there is a detachable stainless steel pocket clip. The butt end position of the clip is required as a result of the locking system. If the clip were positioned on the pivot end, the knife would stick out much very far out of your pocket.

The belt clip is reversible and feels natural in hand. I have the 710 Benchmade and use it for everything – cutting paper and cardboard, cutting string, heavy duty plastic box straps, cutting into the occasional snack, etc. It holds its edge very well.

Anthony asked Wht should i have in a bug out bag?

What backpack is good for use as a bug out bag. I live in a suburbs next to woodland.up in New England if that helps. 10 points t whoever gives me a list of things you need in a bug out bag for a shtf situation for ex. Nuclear war, pandemic etc. And also answere these questions what gas mask can survive an NBC attack and where are they found? What firearm is best for shtf? And lastly your choice of knife for shtf situation? Thanks in advance.

And got the following answer:

You’ll find a lot of the things you need at a military surplus store.

Backpack: I personally prefer the Sandpiper of California’s SOC 3-Day Pass. It’s very spacious, comfortable, has a waist belt, distributes weight evenly, a pocket for a hydration bladder, and comes in many color/camo patterns but doesn’t have a lot of molle straps for hooking extra pouches and not as thick as an assault pack. But it’s still extremely durable. GIs who used this said it survives multiple deployments. It’d be perfect if has molle straps all around like an assault pack.

Gas mask: Any modern mask with no defects, made of butyl or hycar rubber, with a 40mm thread will do for NBC used with an new filter. You can find new masks and filters online, or see if your local industrial supply store has them. If you go with surplus the Israeli Civilian 4A1 mask is pretty ubiquitous, effective, and cheap. If you must use a surplus filter go with a C2A1 or Swiss filters in the green pods. Don’t use Soviet surplus, 60mm masks, or Cold War-era cheek filter masks. A more expensive mask with a side mounted filter is better for using weapons. If you buy surplus go with a M40, MCUs, M67, K1, M95, M15, 4A1, S10, FM12, PMK. Those are the good surplus masks if they’re serviceable. Nuclear war, have potassium iodide. A painter’s suit will do for body NBC protection, especially if it’s Tyvek. As for decon without a shower tent or chemical washes, sanitizers and bleach/detergent/water solutions and powdered active charcoal will do.

Firearm. A .357 magnum is great. It can be used for self defense, for hunting game, and it’s a revolver. Not as stylish and doesn’t hold as many rounds, but it’s easier to use (esp. if you have loved ones who aren’t experienced around guns and need to use it in case you can’t) and more reliable in that they don’t malfunction or jam as easily. Still, I prefer a 1911 or Beretta 92FS…just out of personal taste.

Knife. A KA-BAR, the military uses their fighting knifes. Can’t go wrong with a 1218 USMC issue or a 1275 Bull-Dozier. Or a Gerber knife, more cost effective. I also like the folding spring assist knife. Like this one: http://www.amazon.com/MARINE-HERO-Spring-Assist-Automatic/dp/B006AZDBZA
It has a good serrated sawed edge, a glass breaker, and a seat belt cutter. Durable, good for emergencies, self defense, small game, and a lot of other utilities. A Swiss Army knife or a multitool is good to have too, as is a signaling mirror and a multiple-use tool that has a compass/whistle/light all in one.

Food and water. 72 hours is the typical minimum standard but pack more if you can carry more or want a week supply or more. Go with freeze dried foods like Mountainhouse, rations by companies like Datrex or Mayday, MREs if they’re not expired, emergency food bars with high calories and basic nutrients, or any nonperishables with a long or almost indefinite shelf life that aren’t too heavy. A small Aquamira or Lifestraw water filter is useful too, water purification tablets or solutions optional-can just boil it.

Many ways to make fire. Like a magnesium bar, strike anywhere and/or water/storm proof matches, lighter.

Medical supplies. Buy a small trauma kit pouch. Or get a regular first aid kit, add to it if you want it to treat heavier injuries. Like quickclot, shears, forceps, antiseptics, burn cream, suture kit, multi-purpose trauma dressing. Most likely you’ll find these at a medical supply store that specializes in wound care or surplus.

Pack a small fishing line, a flare or glow sticks, steel cup or canteen, space blankets, rain ponchos (PVC is also chemical resistant), a two-person tube tent like Stansport (it’s flat, small, lightweight, easy to set up, can be used as a tarp or for signaling), toiletries, sanitary wipes or gel, any needed medications, a strong LED flashlight with batteries, toilet paper, small spade, and a portable solar/crank radio or stove if you want. Sleeping bags, BCB International makes some that are small and light enough to fit in your pocket. Space blankets will do if you have nothing else. Regular sleeping bags are too large and cumbersome.

Don’t have anything addictive. You’ll be SOL if you run out, and other people might just kill you for it. And not everyone is friendly to want to barter. Like TAFKAN, who seems to forget those who are ready could be more than capable of shooting you too… just for being an ***hole.

David asked Looking for a good everyday knife?

I’d like a couple of ideas for a under three inch blade spring assisted (or one I can open with a button) blade that holds a good edge and is relatively easy to sharpen. I’ve read good things about high carbon stainless steel but I’ve also read that high grades of stainless steal can be just as good or better. I’ve also heard that some companies like Gerber are known to sell poorly put together knives or are made with low quality materials.

Any suggestions?

And got the following answer:

Kershaw Leek, one awesome little blade.

Alex asked Are assisted opening knifes legal in conneticut?

It was always in my mind like they have the gerber fast draw which is what I call spring assisted

I found this on a forum site, I’ll just give the link… it’s actually a cop who gives an answer!
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=756737

rulaker asked best brand for spring assist knives?

What is the best brand for spring assist knife? I am looking for something I can use as an everyday knife. I have a kershaw blur and it’s a great knife but I was looking for something cheaper than $80.
And as a side question, what is your opinions on cold steel and SOG folding knives?

And got the following answer:

If you like Kershaw, then I’d suggest sticking with it. The Scallion Spring-Assist has good ratings and a reasonable price on Amazon.

My personal preference is for Benchmade, but their spring-assisted knives generally run quite a bit more than what you’re looking for. A year or two ago, my son had picked up an assisted knife (Gerber I believe), and it fell apart within a month. We got a refund from REI, and he picked out a Benchmade Barrage. The Barrage has held up quite well since then. For me, it seems a little big for daily carry, so I’d recommend the Mini-Barrage if you wanted a higher-end knife.
