Jeremy asked What are the best kind of steels for a knife?

I’m just wondering what the best steel would be for an edc/hunting knife that could put up with alot of abuse.

And got the following answer:

D2 and O2 steels are nice. They are expensive, but hold an edge extremely well.
S30V is nice also. It’s a more stain-resistant steel that holds an edge very well.
For outdoor hiking/camping knives, it’s tough to beat good old 1095 carbon steel. Sure it will rust, but it’s tough as nails, not brittle, holds an edge pretty well, and easy to sharpen…and it’s pretty cheap.

Other steels, AUS8 is an ok cheap steel. It’s stain resistant and cheap. AUS6 isn’t worth the time or effort. Buck knives does an excellent job of heat treating 420 stainless to become very hard. Their knives are excellent considering 420 stainless is typically soft steel.

Proud Mommy asked What knife is best for cutting deer meatt?

My husband is a hunter and he cleans his own deer, I’m looking for a knife to get him for when he is cutting the meat up. Not for gutting the deer, but for cutting up the meat for eating. Any advice?

And got the following answer:

I have found the best is a folding fillet knife. It has a long thin blade which makes it easy to bone the meat and long enough to cut the hams for the steaks. The one I bought was under 15 bucks from Cabelas. I own a half a dozen now. What else I found that helps is a good sharpener tho keep knifes sharp which make the job easier and safer. I bought that at Cabelas also for under 200 bucks it is a Chiefs Choice.

rstarr63 asked what is the max fixed blade knife length in florida?

i have a BUCK nighthawk tatical/military survival knife that is 4 7/8 in. long and need to know how long the max length a knife can be in florida that is not concealed.

And got the following answer:

I don’t know that there is a max length
The laws concerning carrying knives address concealed knives and allow for 4 inch blades

I used to carry a Sharp Finger and have co workers that carry sheath knives around five inches long
I carry a caping knife with a small blade now

We have an excuse due to our jobs but I have never been stopped for doing it

josh asked wat shuld i use to cut a branch off of a tree?

note that i cant get my hands on anything electrical. i have only a 3inch buck knife any tips to cuz a pretty big banch?

And got the following answer:

If the branch is high up in an area that is hard to reach you could use a tree/pole saw to get the job done. They are made for cutting tree branches. And you might want to apply a pruning sealer to the tree if you take the branches off during the warmer growing season to prevent any sap from leaking out of the tree.

In my area we have a tree trimming company that comes in every few years to trim off the tree branches hanging over/ near/ or on the power lines for our electrical company. The only thing that they use is a tree saw and a shredder to grind up the branches, leaves, and limbs of the trees. Last year they trimmed off the top of weeping willow tree across the road from my house and this year the tree looks as if it had never been cut.

805gabe asked What’s a good quality pocket knife I can buy? Any good brands?

I just got a job at a factory / warehouse and all the guys have pocket knives. I hate having to ask to borrow them every time. What’s are the good brands I can look into? Is buying used a good idea if I want to save money or will they not be any good?

And got the following answer:

Buck model 110 – $30 off Amazon.com

IMO – For cutting open cardboard boxes. It would make more sense to buy an inexpensive $5 box cutter(AKA a retractable utility knife)
